Introducing: Zara Marie Coakley

Zara Marie Coakley is the newest addition the household. She is, of course, the most adorable baby we have ever seen. She was getting compliments (from the nurses) as soon as she was born! She was slightly late: by 12 days born at 1:09 am after 18 hours of labor. She came out at 8 lbs 6 oz and 22 inches long. It seems she found mommy's tummy to be quite comfortable and required the doctor to retrieve her using forceps, hence the bruise on her forehead in some of the pictures.

Zara is pronunced in British fashion; Zär'â, which rhymes with 'car' followed by a short 'a' sound.

As far as we know Zara is not in use in the U.S. since it does not appear on the census. We first heard it in the U.K, where it is was uncommon but is now one of the top 100 names for 2004. Zara shares her name with: Princess Zara Philips, born 1981 (Search Google for princess "Zara Philips") and daughter of Princess Royal Anne, who is the daughter of Her Royal Magesty Queen Elizabeth (of the U.K.); and a variant of it, Zahra, with Catherine Zeta-Jones's recent daughter; and an unknown video production person (we saw the name on a T.V. program/movie's credits.
